| Scottsdale Congregational Church, UCC in Scottsdale, Arizona will celebrate the lives of “the oldest and wisest” in their congregation during the annual Congregational meeting in January. Those honored will be all members age 80 and older… Rev. Lee Milligan was installed as Senior Minister of Casas Adobes Congregational Church in Tuscon, Arizona last November. The church donated all of the offering from his installation service – nearly $2,000 – to the Southwest Conference Seminarians Fund which supports those who are pursuing their seminary education with the goal of ordination…. Rincon Congregational UCC in Tucson, Arizona is underwriting some public radio stations during the Christmas holidays, Easter and the start of the school year. The underwriting allows Rincon to support local public radio station and allows them “to get the word out about our progressive Christian community.”…. First Congregational UCC in Prescott, Arizona will hold its 130th annual meeting on January 30. First Congregational is the oldest parish in the Southwest Conference. Close behind is United Churches Fellowship UCC in Nogales, Arizona which will celebrate its 125th anniversary some time this year. |
Good Shepherd UCC in Sahuraita, Arizona hosted the seventh annual Border Issues Fair on January 15. One of the speakers was Dr. Bruce Parks, Pima County Medical Examiner who spoke on “Border Crosser Deaths.”… Rev. James E. Fredette has retired as Senior Pastor of the United Church of Sun City in Sun City, Arizona. He was ordained in the United Church of Christ 39 years ago and served as Senior Pastor of the Sun City Church for the past ten years…. The Congregational Church of the Valley in Scottsdale, Arizona held a “Blessing of the Animals” on January 15 for all pets: dogs, cats, turtles, horses, snakes, hamsters, whatever…. Althought this news wasn't in the January newsletters, Scottsdale Congregational UCC in Scottsdale, Arizona also held a pet blessing event last fall. In addition to the pet blessing, they included a dog wash and flea market. Proceeds helped to fund a youth mission trip to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary…. Rev. Liana Rowe of Shadow Rock UCC in Phoenix, Arizona is one of six people awarded a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Living the Dream” award given to those who have made Phoenix a better place to live through a lifelong commitment to creating a compassionate and socially just society. Liana was honored on January 14 at the annual MLK Awards Breakfast… |
